Ron Karulski

The detailed and very 'touchable' carved and painted roadrunners, coyotes, fish, otters, hummingbirds, javalina, lizards and assorted other creatures created by internationally acclaimed wood carver/sculptor Ron J. Karulski 'The Polish Wood Carver,' are favorites among collectors in the U.S., Canada and Australia.

Born in Chicago in 1944, the youngest son of a large family, Ron first demonstrated his artistic talents at an early age as a landscape painter. However, rather than painting the lush Midwestern landscapes around him, Ron focused on capturing the sparse beauty of bare, winter-gnarled trees. Not long after, he began to whittle small creatures and object form soft pine with a Boy Scout pocket knife.

Enjoying the solid feel of wood carvings taking shape in his increasingly skilled hands, Ron soon stopped painting landscapes. Wood carving became his obsession. Hi set out to learn everything he could about it. As he became a well known carver in the Midwest, recognized especially for his beautifully carved and painted fish, he and his wife Betty dreamed of moving to Tucson to make wood carving Ron's primary focus. Finally, after 21 years as a machinist, Ron decided to leave his job and as he says, "make my stand in life in Tucson as a full-time master wood carver."
